A lecturer from Universiti Malaysia (UTM) behind the controversial Tamadun Islam Tamadun Asia (Titas) lecture slides has been sacked, revealed Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh
The Higher Education Minister, in an interview on radio station BFM’s programme The Breakfast Grille on Thursday morning, said the decision was made by the university.
“They (UTM) are autonomous … they hired the lecturer and they have the right to fire him. And I was told yesterday that he has been fired,” said Idris.
The lecture materials went viral had portrayed Hindus as “dirty” and misrepresented the history of Sikhism, triggering an uproar.
“He was not using the co-curriculum provided by the ministry and that has got to be fully understood.
“We are telling the lecturers that they have to be in line with the Government policies,” he said.
The university is now currently reviewing its Titas module, which includes appointing experts in Indian, Sikh and Chinese civilisation studies.
